Wings Come in All Sizes
By Patricia Thompson

The Wings Exercise Class at Shelby Farms can have some unexpected benefits, other than strength building. I have found our group to be humorous, witty, caring, intelligent and sometimes silly. We warmly welcome all newcomers and hope that they will come back, especially one.

Peck, peck, peck. Looking IN the window at Shelby Farms and wanting attention was a precocious little ball of feathers and fluff with two black eyes that watched every move we made. Those two eyes peeking from that tiny little body, said very, very clearly, "feed me, feed me". One of the employees at the reception center would take breadcrumbs out several times a day and lay them on the windowsill. The little mockingbird would allow her to get very close. This went on for about two weeks. We never had an exercise class that this tiny being didn't attend. She might not be there when we arrived but she appeared soon afterward, and we always made sure she got fed. We expected her and we looked forward to seeing her and having her see us. She grew quite rapidly and every day she had less fluff and more feathers. Then one day she was gone. And we missed her; she made us remember that it is the simple things that mean the most. She reached out to us and we responded.
