Roy C. Eure, Jr. has degrees in both art and interior design and has studied at the University of Southern Mississippi, Kendall College of Art and Design, and Memphis College of Art. Roy lives and works in midtown Memphis. He is a devotee of the interiors, furnishings, decorative objects, architecture and ideology of the American Arts and Crafts era and applies these elements in both his art pieces and design work. In addition to his midtown Memphis interior design practice, he designs and builds art-based furniture. Roy is active on the board of the local association of the American Society of Interior Designers and is active in several neighborhood and historic preservation organizations.
"Currently, my painting is influenced by my study of several early twentieth century design movements. I am incorporating colleted quotes, the poignant thoughts and wisdom of Elbert Hubbard of the Roycrofters, among others, into very graphic and oversized floral designs of the Art Nouveau period. In a very straightforward fashion, I wish for my work to calm the spirit and to provoke thought and an analysis of self from the viewer."
This work, and work to come, is dedicated to my grandmother Celeste, who survived two forms of cancer with incredible dignity and grace to continue to dedicate her life to what really matters - the care of her family.
